ROOMDEX has released its Attribute-Based Selling (ABS) solution’s initial results, which show a YoY increase in upselling revenue of 14%. ROOMDEX ABS has been piloted at five hotels for over 2 months in the US and Europe, where its proprietary algorithm enabled the personalized sale of individual room features, resulting in higher revenue and a better guest experience.
In the hotel industry, ABS means selling individual, immutable room features instead of room services. ROOMDEX ABS automatically prices individual room attributes based on demand, availability, persona, and other attribute pairings. With ABS, guests can now choose the room features they want and have a more personalized experience.
The five hotels using ROOMDEX ABS have shown a positive increase in revenue, with all hotels experiencing an increase in YoY upselling revenue during the period. Additionally, the number of upsell purchases increased by 36% and 45% of all guests purchased two or more room attributes via ABS, indicating the guests’ embrace of stay personalization.
Of particular interest is that 32% of all ABS upsell revenue was attributed to upsells within the same room category. That means the sale of an attribute associated with a specific room in the hotel. For example, within a single room category, you may have rooms: close to the elevator, or away from the elevator; on a high floor or low floor; near an amenity like the gym or the laundry; with a specific view, etc. This represents new revenue from hotel products never before monetized.
