The combination of declining revenues and rising costs are negatively impacting profit per room at hotels across the Middle East. According to the latest tracking data from HotStats, full-service hotels in the region have seen GOPPAR slide by nearly 40 percent over the last 36 months on average. Hotels in the region have now experienced a year-over-year decline in profit in seven of the last 10 months. This month, the decline was precipitated by a 3.8-percent drop in RevPAR, which is a result of a 5.2-percent decline in average room rate in hotels across the region.
